The map shows the results of a ranking of vineyard sites on the Middle Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer, which were made public by the Prussian tax authorities in 1868. It is one of the oldest official vineyard classification maps in the world. It has three classes shaded in different tones of red. The vineyards of VDP Thanisch belong in the top-ranked vineyards. Our most important sites are Bernkasteler Badstube, the long-standing Bernkasteler Graben, Bernkasteler Lay, and our grand cru Berncasteler Doctor, which is known as the most expensive vineyard in Germany.

Our vineyards are to a large extent owned by the family for generations and are exclusively planted with Riesling vines.

They form the basis for the characterful wines of our property.

All our vineyards are on steep slopes, which are in and around Bernkastel, in the heart of the Middle Mosel. With their slate soils, they provide mineral-rich wines with complex aromas and a stimulating balance between sweetness and acidity.
